30% Of The Proceeds Will Benefit (2) City of Rochester, NY Charities (see below)
"Squeeze Joy Each Minute. Time Does Not Return, Yet Memories Do."
These are the agencies that will benefit (they help individuals, who help other individuals, who............):
1. The Avenue-D Christian Reading Program
Peter and Debbie, in conjunction with the Avenue D Community Center, Charity Bible Baptist Church, Roberts Wesleyan College, School #8 and V.J. Stanley, Inc. have launched a reading program for city youth. The program includes food, fun, and rewards as children increase their ability to read, comprehend and begin to practice another way of thinking and living. The experience provides another paradigm to the surrounding environment of poverty, unemployment, and violence.
In the neighborhood:
39% have a high school education;
43% (16 and older) are not in the labor force;
School 8 is persistently on NY State Education Department’s list of dangerous schools;
2400 families form a population of 36,000 who live below poverty level (28.9%)
A Christian approach is used; however, the program is not about making someone wrong. It increases their self worth, as well as creating value for their family and the entire neighborhood.
The donation will be used to provide a part-time, paid, facilitator from the neighborhood. Currently they are relying on volunteers, mostly from outside the neighborhood.
2. Ford Street – Youth for Christ Basketball Program
Geoff and a group of volunteers offer an environment of basketball and camaraderie. It is complete with shirts, food, trophies and a banquet. This also is a Christian endeavor designed to provide support, entertainment, and a physical outlet away from hanging out on the streets. They also provide great discussions, answer questions and offer a Christian viewpoint through truth and love. At $50 each, the donation will allow more youth (boys and girls) to participate.
